About Katherine Briggs

Short Bio

Katherine Briggs crafted her first monster story at age three. Since graduating from crayons to laptop, she continues to devour and weave fantasy tales while enjoying chai tea. She, her coadventurer husband, and rescue dog reside outside Houston, where she classically educates amazing middle school students, teaches ESL to adults, and enjoys studying other languages.

Lengthy Bio

Award-winning author Katherine Briggs crafted her first monster story at age three, many thanks to her mom’s patient dictation. While moving between states and countries with her family, she continued to write as far west as Texas and east as southern France. In high school, Katherine completed Daniel Schwabauer’s One Year Adventure Novel creative writing program. Post high school, she graduated in Craftsman Fiction from Jerry B. Jenkin’s Christian Writers Guild with her fifth novel, which opened doors to mentors such as bestselling author DiAnn Mills, conferences, contests, and publication.

Katherine has been honored to accept over fifteen short story and article publications, including Havok Publishing and SFWA-qualifying Mysterion. Additionally, she is humbled to have stories final in the Christian Writer’s Guild Operation First Novel contest and the Realm Makers Realm Awards short fiction category, and for stories to win first place in the American Christian Fiction Writers First Impressions contest in the speculative category and first place in the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference Foundation Awards category for unpublished speculative novel.

After moving from Central Illinois back to her native Texas, Katherine has continued to immerse herself in classical education as a middle school teacher.

One of Katherine’s newest adventures is diving into the world of teaching adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Spending childhood years living in countries that spoke Italian and French, plus cultivating international relationships with friends from countries as far as South Korea, India, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Cuba, Colombia, and Argentina, gives her compassion toward those living in a “new world.”

Katherine also has a background in classical ballet, and is thankful for past opportunities to perform many long-standing favorites, such as The Nutcracker, Coppélia, and Swan Lake.

Katherine, her wonderful coadventurer husband John, and rescue dog Mercy reside outside Houston, Texas, where they love to read, run, explore, practice their second language, and spend time with friends and families.

Katherine now joins the Enclave Publishing family, and her debut YA fantasy novel The Eternity Gate, published September 2023.

About The Eternity Gate

Short Blurb

Kings and monsters battle over treasure locked behind the Eternity Gate, and Seyo holds the stolen key.

Medium Blurb

Kings and monsters battle over legends of treasure locked behind the Eternity Gate. Rumors whisper that someone stole the gate’s ancient key. Seyo, handmaiden to the princess, translates a prophecy from the archives warning that the gate does not offer treasure but judgment. Burdened with secrets and brewing war, she embarks on a journey to seek dangerous help. Will hiding the key—or destroying it—save her people or ensure their defeat?

Long Blurb

Destroy the key. Save her people and herself.

The Eternity Gate is found, and kings and monsters battle over its legends of treasure. But rumors whisper that someone stole the gate’s ancient key.

Seyo, handmaiden to the princess, keeps three secrets. First, she’s gifted in fire, not light, and may as well be cursed. Second, she translates a prophecy warning that the gate does not offer treasure but judgment. Third, Jorai, the scorned prince and Seyo’s confidant, entrusts her with the key and disappears.

Surrounded by war, Seyo and her companions embark on a journey to seek help from a faraway empire and find Jorai, unaware of the trap awaiting them. But what should Seyo do with the key? Who can survive judgment, especially someone as flawed as her? Will hiding the key—or destroying it—save her people or ensure their defeat?
